Job Brief:We are looking for an experienced
Automation Technician specializing in
boiler control and burner systems to support troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of automation systems. The role involves hands-on work with
Burner Management Systems (BMS), control panels, instrumentation, and fuel conversion projects. The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical background in automation, excellent diagnostic skills, and experience working in a marine or industrial environment.
Job Responsibilities:1. Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics- Diagnose boiler control logic faults, burner lockouts, and system trips using PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces.
- Conduct detailed alarm checks and interlock testing for Burner Management Systems (BMS).
- Verify control panel integrity, I/O signal status, and loop functionality.
- Use multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic software for signal tracing and fault isolation.
2. Control Panel & Instrumentation Maintenance- Inspect, calibrate, and function-test instruments such as pressure switches, flame scanners, level probes, oxygen analyzers, actuators, and transmitters.
- Ensure correct sequencing of start-up/shut-down logic, purge cycles, and flame safety interlocks.
- Check terminal tightness, cable continuity, and proper earthing/grounding of control panels.
3. Smoke & Flame Detection Systems- Test UV/IR flame scanners, smoke detectors, and ensure proper interfacing with safety shut-off valves.
- Ensure compliance with SOLAS and class requirements for combustion safety systems.
4. Burner Modification & Fuel Conversion- Support burner retrofits, nozzle changes, and fuel conversion projects (oil-to-gas, dual-fuel, etc.).
- Assist in tuning PID loops for air/fuel ratio control to improve combustion efficiency and reduce excess O₂.
- Verify the correct functioning of servo motors, actuators, VFDs, and dampers during commissioning.
5. Documentation & Compliance- Maintain accurate service logs, calibration certificates, and troubleshooting reports.
- Adhere to OEM manuals, NFPA 85/86 (Boiler & Burner Safety Standards), and relevant class requirements.
- Report recurring faults or systemic issues to the Service Engineer with proposed corrective measures.
