Job Brief:
We are looking for an experienced Automation Technician specializing in boiler control and burner systems to support troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of automation systems. The role involves hands-on work with Burner Management Systems (BMS), control panels, instrumentation, and fuel conversion projects. The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical background in automation, excellent diagnostic skills, and experience working in a marine or industrial environment.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics
  • Diagnose boiler control logic faults, burner lockouts, and system trips using PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces.
  • Conduct detailed alarm checks and interlock testing for Burner Management Systems (BMS).
  • Verify control panel integrity, I/O signal status, and loop functionality.
  • Use multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic software for signal tracing and fault isolation.
2. Control Panel & Instrumentation Maintenance
  • Inspect, calibrate, and function-test instruments such as pressure switches, flame scanners, level probes, oxygen analyzers, actuators, and transmitters.
  • Ensure correct sequencing of start-up/shut-down logic, purge cycles, and flame safety interlocks.
  • Check terminal tightness, cable continuity, and proper earthing/grounding of control panels.
3. Smoke & Flame Detection Systems
  • Test UV/IR flame scanners, smoke detectors, and ensure proper interfacing with safety shut-off valves.
  • Ensure compliance with SOLAS and class requirements for combustion safety systems.
4. Burner Modification & Fuel Conversion
  • Support burner retrofits, nozzle changes, and fuel conversion projects (oil-to-gas, dual-fuel, etc.).
  • Assist in tuning PID loops for air/fuel ratio control to improve combustion efficiency and reduce excess O₂.
  • Verify the correct functioning of servo motors, actuators, VFDs, and dampers during commissioning.
5. Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate service logs, calibration certificates, and troubleshooting reports.
  • Adhere to OEM manuals, NFPA 85/86 (Boiler & Burner Safety Standards), and relevant class requirements.
  • Report recurring faults or systemic issues to the Service Engineer with proposed corrective measures.
Job Requirements:
  • Qualification: ITI / Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in boiler automation, BMS, or industrial control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems, burner operations, and instrument calibration.
  • Experience in troubleshooting marine or industrial boiler automation systems.
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards, SOLAS requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic and calibration tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in coordination with technical teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
